Toy Library and Early Learning Center
The Toy Library and Early Learning Center is a free resource to the community that relies on the generous support of donors. All of the toys and learning materials are shelved by age group in four categories to support children’s development: language and pre-literacy, thinking skills, movement and physical development, and social/emotional development. This arrangement allows parents, caregivers and child care providers to match their children’s interests and developmental needs with toys that promote learning and fun!
Summer Closure: The Toy Library/Early Learning Center will be closed in July and August and will re-open again on September 5th, 2017.
How the Lending Library Works
It sounds like a crazy idea, but in Napa County it's a reality! CRC's Toy Library is a green and frugal resource for Napa County families and early childhood educators. After filling in a membership agreement, toys and early learning materials are available for a 14 day loan to anyone who lives in Napa County. Borrowing toys saves families and early childhood educators money and keeps interesting playthings in the hands of children whose developmental needs change rapidly in the early years. As one member puts it, "children fall in and out of love with a toy in a matter of days sometimes". Our toys are selected with an eye for durability, practicality, developmental appropriateness and long-term usefulness.
Community Resources for Children is thrilled to have so many children, parents, and caregivers discovering the early learning materials in the Toy Library and Early Learning Center. Beginning March 2, 2017, items may be checked out for two weeks (14 days) only. With the increase in interest and participation, comes the realization that to maintain an inventory that meets the need, we can no longer check out items for a 28 day period. We thank you for your understanding and cooperation, and invite your help! If you know a person, business, or organization that might be willing to contribute funds to help us purchase additional toys and learning materials, please contact Eva Simonsson at email@example.com or (707) 253-0376 x140.

Early Learning Activities
Early Learning Activities is a new program that introduces children to new experiences and activities that stimulate the senses to help support brain development. We currently offer two 8 week sessions per year. There is no need to sign-up and the activities are free of charge. Please check our calendar for updates and more information about specific dates and themes. Please note that during Early Learning Activities we encourage parents/caregivers and children to participate in the hands-on interactive experiences focused on the theme of the week. These experiences are designed to provide parents/caregivers with ideas to support children's pre-literacy, problem solving, social/emotional, fine and gross motor skill development at home and in the community.
Ages & Stages Questionnaire (ASQ)
Now in addition to checking out toys to take home, parents and child care providers can visit the Toy Library and Early Learning Center to learn more about supporting children’s development through the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ). The ASQ is a parent completed confidential screening tool for children ages 2 months to 5 years that provides a quick check on a child’s development. The information parents’ provide on the ASQ helps to determine a child’s strengths and areas in which a child may need more encouragement, practice or further assessment. Please stop by to speak with the library staff if you would like more information about the ASQ.
