Zika Virus – Info for Parents & Providers

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the Zika virus is spread to people primarily through the bite of an infected Aedes species mosquito. The most common symptoms of Zika are fever, rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis. The biggest cause for concern with the Zika virus is the risk associated with the infection in pregnant women causing birth defects. There have been reports of serious birth defects for babies whose mothers were infected while pregnant.
