A Hot Topic Conversation: Body Talk, promoting a positive body image

Learn how to make an impact on your body image and a boy’s or girl’s body image and self-esteem.

Please join Community Resources for Children with special guests Anne Sutkowi-Hemstreet and the Girls on the Run Napa & Solano Team for this one of a kind conversation open to the entire community!

Parents, caregivers, child care providers, and the community are invited to join us in conversation about positive body image. Together, positively impacting our health and well-being by changing the conversation, self-talk and the way we think about our bodies.  Seating is limited for this event so please register today. Spanish interpretation will be available and refreshments will be provided.

WHAT we talk about?

  • Defining body image and body talk
  • Who/what influences a child’s body image
  • Why positive body image is important
  • Media Literacy: How to critically view the media
  • How parents & caregivers can be good role models and talk with children

WHY Body Talk:

  • 37% of Napa County students are never or only sometimes satisfied with the way their bodies look
  • Negative body image leads to eating disorders, depression, and risky sexual behaviors
  • Parents & caregivers are important influences on a child’s body image
  • 1 in 4 girls engage in dieting by the age of 7
